Welcome to the Ballrooms of Mars, the home of Marc Bolan and T. Rex on the web since 1996.

Latest News

  • Got a press release for the book The Wizard's Gown - Rewoven, described as ""A Special Edition of Tony Stringfellow's acclaimed book to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Marc Bolan's untimely death and what would have been his 60th birthday. Reworked and extended with more insights including the long awaited exposure of 'Metal Guru' and an analysis of his film 'Born to Boogie'." Amazon UK has it here.

Recent T. Rex sitings and news:

  • Marc Bolan appears briefly in the BBC Top of the Pops history showing on BBC America. It's the Get it On (Bang a Gong) segment, so you've seen it.
  • The Ballrooms of Mars (this site, here) is celebrating over 10 years on the World Wide Web! Wow. I should throw a party or something. If you want to mark the occasion (no pun intended), please consider a donation to the World Food Programme run by the United Nations.
  • This artist does some nice work, including a very nice portrait of Marc Bolan which he e-mailed me, though I can't seem to find it on his website at the moment.
  • Rolan Bolan is touring in the UK. I've been asked to post dates and locations, so here they are. Enjoy!
  • The Bolan-influenced band Hot Love has a new website.
  • Yep, that's "Get it on (Bang a Gong)" on those JC Penney commercials airing here in the US. It's not the original T. Rex, of course, but still, Bolan's getting a lot of exposure lately in commercials. Aside from the JC Penney stuff, there's the Coke ad playing "The Slider," and "20th Century Boy" was featured in those Mitsubishi Montero commercials a few years back.
  • T. Rex on TV. On DVD. Release date: April 17, 2006. And if the publisher wants to send me a free copy for the promo, send me an e-mail.
  • Yes, that is T. Rex's song "The Slider" from the album The Slider in the Coca-Cola commercial airing here in the US.
  • Elton John covered Children of the Revolution at the recent Live 8 concert. For more info on the campaign to make poverty history, visit The ONE Campaign.
  • A British PR company pushing the new release of "Born to Boogie" on DVD asked for a plug, so click here to find out more (now howabout a free copy of the DVD, guys?!). Here's the official website, too.

Who is this T. Rex anyway?
T. Rex was a British band fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Marc Bolan. Though big in the U.K., their American hits were limited - remember "Bang a Gong"? Howabout "Ride a White Swan," "Hot Love," or maybe "20th Century Boy"? All great stuff - look into it. Now. I'll wait. [More info? Read the Frequently Asked Questions or visit our Links]
